This is a report on the translation of Men Who Hate Women by Laura Bates,of which Chapter 4 Men Who Blame Women and Chapter 5 Men Who Hound Women are the source text. The two chapters mainly discuss the development of manosphere, and unreasonable accusations against women from these communities. With practical cases,Bates also shows the penetration of men’s online violence into the real world. This report is divided into five parts: Part One is the background and significance of the project.Part Two is the background of the ST,introducing its main contents and linguistic features.Part Three is about theoretical framework and its application into the translation project.Under the guidance of Eugene Nida’s theory of functional equivalence, this report will take six principles for producing functional equivalence as theoretical basis of translation methods, and will make a detailed analysis of translation difficulties by the mode of "comprehension-transferring-reconstructing".Part Four is about translation difficulties and corresponding solutions.Due to the inadequate academic researches on misogyny and manosphere, translating the name of unofficial organizations, institutions, website and network neologisms in the ST becomes a difficulty. In addition, the translation of multi-clause sentences also brings some challenges to translators.Word-for-word translation, paraphrase, division, negation, and conversion are main translation methods and techniques to solve those translation difficulties.Part Five concludes with the lessons, implication and unsolved problems in the translation project.
