Motivation is a significant factor in SLA research fields,playing a crucial role in learning a second language.Directed Motivational Currents is a term proposed by D(?)rnyei in 2012.During the past decade,the DMCs Theory has developed and improved by a number of researchers.It has drawn much attention and lead to empirical studies,proving the feasibility of the DMCs in language learning.Based on these previous researches,this research explored the relationship between English personalized reading and English reading competence from the perspective of learning motivation with the DMCs Theory,which intended to explore high school learners’ English reading competence by offering learners personalized and personalized reading materials,as well as the chronic traits of high school English learners’ learning motivation.This research involved the participants in the onesemester-lasting personalized reading activity.Primarily,comparisons analysis of the experimental group and the control group on English learning motivation state were conducted to explore how personalized reading influence English learning motivation.Then analysis of the relation between English learning motivation and performance in English reading test was conducted.Subsequently interviews and motivation trajectory chart were implemented to figure out how English learning motivation fluctuates and develops through time.This study was conducted for sake of implications in learning English as a second language.The following questions were discussed in this study:(1)How does English personalized reading affect English learners’ English learning motivation?(2)How does English personalized reading influence English learners’ performance in English reading test by English learning motivation?(3)How does English learners’ learning motivation develop through time?After this research,these conclusions were drawn as below:(1)Personalized reading has beneficial influences on high school Englishlearners’ learning motivation.(2)English personalized reading improves learners’ performances in English reading tests by benefiting learning motivation.(3)English learning motivation is a dynamic current that keeps changing and developing;which fluctuates and develops differently in consequence of various factors such as exam pressure,personalized reading,positive feedback,collective atmosphere,self-discipline,etc.
