Translation Of Complex Long Sentences In The Agricultural Sci-tech Text From The Perspective Of E/C Comparison

Public health of all humans was threatened by the sudden onslaught of COVID-19 in the end of 2019.Studies have found that a coronavirus with high similarity to the novel coronavirus in gene sequences occurs in wildlife,indicating that the problems of wildlife management,utilization and protection become increasingly prominent.Therefore,it is necessary to reduce food safety risks caused by wildlife,to improve the existing laws and regulations on wildlife utilization and protection,and to learn from international experience.The translation material in this thesis,Food Safety from Wildlife---Challenges in Agriculture,Conservation,and Public Health,introduces the influence brought by wildlife-livestock-human interactions,as well as the guidelines to mitigate microbial food safety risks from wildlife hosts.The translated text can serve as reference for Chinese experts and scholars in these regards.The tenth chapter of“Recommendations to Regulations: Managing Wildlife and Produce Safety on the Farm” describes food safety regulations on the farm and related recommendations and regulations for wildlife management,as well as the strategies to reduce microbial food safety risks.The translation of complex long sentences has been clear challenges to the quality and progress of translation while translating the chapter.As a result,this thesis takes the translation of complex long sentences of agricultural sci-tech text as the research object.The commonly used complex long sentences are composed of multiple subordinate clauses where nominalization,passive sentences and non-predictive verbs are frequently used.Besides,the translation material covers agriculture,biology,pathology,food safety and other fields,making it boast objectivity,accuracy and preciseness at the same time.Thus,considering its logic and language characteristics,the related discipline and stylistic characteristics should be paid great attention.From the perspective of English-Chinese comparison,the thesis gives full consideration to the syntactic difference between the two languages,and concludes four methods---sequencing,reversing,splitting and recasting to solve problems that the author encountered.The thesis is designed to provide something that others can learn from in the E-C translation of agricultural sci-tech text,so as to bring the bridge role of translator into full play and make contribution to the wildlife protection and management,risk reduction of food safety in China,the sustainability of resources and the improvement of ecological development.
