Recent years have offered new opportunities and platforms for TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine)culture to spread globally.This report is based on a 2-hour-long cooperative lecture held between Hebei Chemical & Pharmaceutical College and Karakoram International University that was themed TCM Pharmaceutical Production and Practical Chinese Herbal Medicine on July 8th,2021.The interpretation was guided by and evaluated with the Interpretive Theory to improve the interpreting quality and summarize interpreting difficulties and skills so that better communication effect can be achieved in the future.Firstly,based on the literature review of TCM translation studies and the application studies of the Interpretive Theory,the ways for the Interpretative Theory to guide interpretation practice were analyzed.Then,the interpretation process was divided into three stages: the preparation stage,the processing stage and the delivering stage.They were in accordance with the 3 steps of interpreting processes in the Interpretive Theory: understanding,breaking the original language form and re-explaining.The interpretation recording was made into transcript.Cases were selected and analyzed separately.Examples were collected to be appreciated or criticized and improved.The following findings were drawn from the practice:(1)The overall stylistic features of TCM texts are that they consist of many Chinese ancient expressions and philosophical ideas,but appeared short and concise in forms;(2)Under the guidance of the Interpretative Theory,the most important thing the interpreter needs to consider is the communication effect in interpreting;(3)The three major interpreting techniques adopted in interpreting TCM lectures were: full preparation(for quick understanding on spot),deverbalization(for processing the real sense)and amplification(for delivering the complete meanings);(4)The nature of TCM interpreting is to play good roles of an educational interpreter and a medical interpreter by going extra miles to provide further explanations and being patient and responsible to the audience.Promoting TCM culture to the rest of the world is conducive to the foreign publicity work in the new era and cultural exchanges between nations.The exploration of TCM lecture interpretation helped enrich the existing structure of TCM translation studies.TCM culture was also promoted in a proper and more effective way.With all the findings,the best effect of lecture communication can be achieved,the educational functions of TCM lecture interpreting were fulfilled.The audience and the lecturers were satisfied.Insights were presented for future TCM translation and interpretation practices to know what preparation or qualification an interpreter needs before dabbling into TCM interpreting field.
