Changes In Trade At Yantai Port,1861-1911

Before the opening of the port,Yantai was a small " fishing village" on the Jiaodong Peninsula.Since it was developed with the trade at sea.Especially after the Opium War,Yantai’s business has developed greatly,and it has an important port in North of our country.In 1861,Yantai began to open to the outside world and established Chefoo Customs.Since then,foreign trade in Yantai has developed rapidly,the number of import and export commodities has increased,and the amount of trade has increased.The economic structure changeed in the region.This paper is mainly centered on the customs trade files of the east,based on the statistics of the historical materials and trade data of old Chinese customs,from the perspective of the import and export trade and hinterland trade of Yantai,and analyzes the social and economic changes of Yantai Port.The paper is mainly divided into four parts.The first part briefly introduces the port conditions after Yantai’s port opening,and briefly summarizes the establishment,personnel,and financial systems of Chefoo Customs.The second part explores the changes in domestic trade after the opening of Yantai.The trade of Yantai is supported by its hinterland,and imported foreign goods are continuously sold to the inland large and small towns and the ports of the south.The third part is the core of this paper.It summarizes the changes in foreign trade after the opening of Yantai after opening the port.The local goods in various places are exported directly or indirectly to foreign markets such as Britain,Japan,North Korea,and the United States.Silk,soybean,straw braids are the commodity,and the large number of foreign business flows and the development of modern communication technology have also been closely related to the foreign trade of Yantai Port.The fourth part summarizes the changes in Yantai’s port affecting the regional economic structure.Traditional small-peasant economy has gradually disintegrated,and a new type of trade network has also produced.The industrial structure of the hinterland has transformed into modernization,and social life has also changed dramatically.In short,Yantai is an emerging international commercial port since modern times,which has made it a bridgehead for China-foreign exchanges,which has driven the export-oriented economic growth of surrounding provinces and localities.In addition,Yantai,as a business port,has attracted a large number of foreign capital to enter Yantai Investment Factory.It also greatly promoted the rapid development of the local economy.
