| Currently, aquaculture has become a topic of interest among scholars who frequently engage in various academic exchanges such as joint research and joint seminars. As a result, there are more and more academic reports related to aquaculture both domestically and internationally.Academic reports are informative texts that have strong disciplinary characteristics with fluent writing and precise words. The author of this report selects the academic report“Sustainable Management and Genetic Improvement of Aquatic Genetic Resources and Seed Supply” as the source text for translation. This report contains experimental methods, evaluation data, chart analysis and professional terms. It also includes a large number of long sentences with no subject and complex logical relations that provide a detailed description of the current status and challenges related to the management of aquatic genetic resources. The Communicative Translation Theory was first introduced by Newmark in his book Approaches to Translation. This theory focuses on the readability and communicative effect of the target text.Based on Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory, this report selects a large number of translation cases and analyzes and summarizes the concept and characteristics of the text.It explores the characteristics from lexical, syntactic and textual levels. At the lexical level, conversions are made through the combination of context for common vocabulary, and abbreviations and proper nouns in the field of fishery are checked repeatedly for translation accuracy. At the syntactic level, based on Newmark’s Communicative Translation Theory, this paper discusses the methods of dealing with long and complex sentences and passive voice. For long and complex sentences,it corrects or improves the syntactic logic of the original text, deletes obscure, redundant and synonymous sentences to eliminates ambiguity. For passive voice,it uses methods such as retaining the original subject, reversing the subject and object, and adding a subject to make the translation precise, clear and accurate. At the textual level, the target text from semantic and pragmatic levels have been carefully considered. Some adjustments and additions to the information structure of both source text and target text are made to ensure that readers can obtain information most effectively. This report combines Newmark’ s Communicative Translation Theory and selects typical cases from the translated text for analysis. It demonstrates the key and difficult points and corresponding solutions, with the aim of providing reference for future translations of academic reports in the discipline of aquaculture. |
