This is a report on the translation of excerpts from the North China Daily News, and mainly reflects the voyage of research ships,deep-sea surveys, and marine creature research, demonstrating human achievements in ocean exploration at the infancy stage.Based on the cognitive context of relevance theory, this report makes comparisons between machine translation(MT)output and post-editing(PE)output,aiming to propose suitable translation strategies for the post-editing of sea-related texts. These sea-related texts are science articles with scientific, popular, interesting, and literary features. In light of a large number of sea terms and professional contextual information in the source text, this practice adopts post-editing of machine translation(MTPE)mode to improve translation efficiency and accuracy.Based on previous research and text features, the types of machine translation errors in this practice are mainly classified as under-translation,mistranslation,improper word order, and omission, all of which can be attributed to low context utilization. To rectify these errors and achieve optimal relevance between the source text and target text, three postediting strategies are proposed, the context analysis, context shift, and context complement, which can be applied to solve three restrictions to optimal relevance, the lexical information, logical information, and encyclopedic information.Corresponding translation techniques are discussed as well, disambiguation and amplification at the level of lexical information;shift of voice, clauses, and part of speech, and the adjustment of part of speech at the level of logical information;as well as replacement and supplementary notes at the level of encyclopedic information.
