Factors Influencing The Accuracy Of Personality Judgment Based On Internet Clues:Focusing On Narcissism

Making accurate personality judgments about others is a prerequisite for communication,and the use of mobile internet has shifted some of the objects of this judgment to online image.Previous studies have focused on real-life factors such as face and voice in personality judgment,but have paid less attention to personality judgment of online images.Therefore,this study aims to supplement this judgment process and explain the factors that affect the accuracy of judgment.Purpose: To investigate how narcissistic individuals use their Wechat circle based on the content of their Wechat circle,using questionnaire survey and experimental methods.Is the personality judgment of narcissistic individuals formed by others accurate,and explore which factors affect this judgment.Content: Four studies are included.Study 1 explores the characteristics of Wechat circle usage and self presentation in narcissistic personality;Study 2 selected the Wechat circle of narcissistic individuals as the basis for judgment,and explored the accuracy of others’ personality judgments of narcissistic individuals;Study 3 explores the role of emotional intelligence in the process of personality judgment;Study 4 improves ecological validity,further deepening communication between the judge and the judgment object,and exploring the impact of familiarity on accuracy based on the judgment results of the judgment object’s acquaintances.Results:(1)Narcissistic individuals have a higher frequency of use,and there are differences in self presentation between explicit and implicit individuals.Overt narcissistic individuals tend to present themselves more positively and truthfully,while implicit narcissistic individuals only present themselves positively;(2)Through the content of social media,there is good accuracy in assessing the openness,approachability,and extraversion of narcissistic individuals,while there is unclear judgment on neuroticism and conscientiousness;The accuracy of judging individuals with different narcissistic types is inconsistent,and the accuracy of judging individuals with overt narcissism is higher(3)Emotional intelligence can significantly affect the accuracy of judgment results,and only individuals with high emotional intelligence can make more accurate judgments in various dimensions and interacts with the judgment trait;(4)Familiarity significantly affects the accuracy of judgment results,and the higher the level of familiarity,the more accurate the judgment results.And there is an interaction with judging traits and judging the target narcissism type.In summary,narcissistic individuals exhibit different forms of self-expression online,and their accuracy in judgment is influenced by judgement traits,narcissism type,emotional intelligence and familiarity.
