Translation Standardization Of Tobacco Terms

In recent years,with the development of crop farming,the tobacco industry has been increasingly seeking more external exchanges with foreign countries.Meanwhile,relevant professional translation studies and practices are conducted.Based on the translation of Research and Practice of Layout Optimization of Flue-cured Tobacco Varieties(Excerpt),this report attempts to explore the translation strategies of standardization of tobacco terms,and to find out the comprehensive methods for the standardization of tobacco terms,through analyzing the tobacco terms without standard English translation in the Chapter 4,so as to provide some references for the scientific and technological terms.In the Chapter 4 of Research and Practice of Layout Optimization of Flue-cured Tobacco Varieties,there are many tobacco terms without standard English translation.The report analyzes the difficulties from purely technical terms,semi-technical terms,and non-technical terms.The difficulties translationof purely technical technical terms are specific subject concept and context-independent element.The translation difficulties of semi-technical terms are interdisciplinarity and use of metaphor.The translation difficulties of non-technical terms are terminological use of common words and lack of unified translation.In order to solve the problems of standardization of tobacco terms,five methods are put forward in the Chapter 5 of the report,including parallel text comparison method,technical extension,omission,splitting and recombination method and frequency comparison method.The translation of the tobacco terms in the source text are carried out by flexibly using the five methods on the basis of the translation principles,which helps to convey the accurate meaning of the source text and conform to the English language norms.
