Transference Of Coherence In The Translation Of Popular Medical Science Texts: A Report On The Translation Of Immune

This report is based on the practice of the English-Chinese translation of the popular medical science book Immune: A Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive(Chapters 1 to 7).The author of the book is Philipp Detmer,who accidentally developed a strong interest in the immune system while studying information design at university.Therefore,this book is based on the author’s research on the immune system for ten years.Experience is what we see,feel,and hear in life,and the impression that events leave in our minds,including personal experience and accumulated knowledge.Therefore,the vocabulary selected in the source text has become a crucial and indispensable carrier of experience.The category of experiential meaning is closely related to the semantic category,which aims to ensure coherence in the whole text when describing experiential meaning;At the same time,based on the information intersection between the texts,it also reflects the differences in the thinking process between Chinese and Western,mainly in the linear arrangement of information and the abstract description of information,so that it finally forms different ways of coherence.In order to reproduce the coherence of the experiential meaning in the source language text to the target language readers and organize the information structure reasonably,translators need to correctly understand and depict the experiential meaning description and information layout structure of the source language text in the translation.Under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,based on the translation practice of the text,this paper discusses how to reproduce the coherence of popular science texts in the target language text from the aspects of empirical significance and information arrangement,with the translation strategies of domestication strategy supplemented with foreignization strategy.Based on the specific translation problems,the translator uses different techniques such as amplification method,omission method,conversion method,and adaptation method,so as to ensure that the translation can reflect its empirical significance.The information is adjusted and controlled by regulations,in order to reproduce the coherence within the text.Based on the translation report,the translator deeply understands the reconstruction and reproduction of coherence in popular medical science texts.The report aims to explore the translation methods and techniques of coherence and has timely summarized the experience on the unsolved problems.This report provides a reference for the translation of popular medical science texts.
