| The material selected for this interpreting practice report is an online interview with author and energy expert Alex Epstein for “Reason TV”.This interview is about climate change and fossil fuels,and the host Nick Gillespie and the interviewee Alex Epstein have a discussion centering around overreaching climate and energy claims.A remote simultaneous interpretation on the interview has been conducted and the main difficulty encountered by the interpreter in this process is noise.The concept of noise was put forward by communication and information sciences.Since interpreting is a special form of communication,it also has noise undermining the interpreter’s ability to obtain,understand and deliver information.Interpretation noise can be classified as social noise,language noise,physical noise,psychological noise and others.Based on the material,the interpreting practice report focuses on the social noise formed by cultural-loaded words,including linguistic-cultural loaded words,material-cultural loaded words and socio-cultural loaded words,language noise constituted by repairs,information redundancy and frequent interruptions,and physical noise like lags due to network malfunction.In response to the noise,this report adopts interpreting strategies such as waiting,omission,addition,fuzzy processing and others.This report seeks to enrich researches on coping noise on remote simultaneous interpreting and offer advice through discussing different types of noise and respective processing strategies. |
