This practice report is based on the debate on “Forgive Student Debt” held on May 25,2021 under the education column of Intelligence Squared US.The debate explores whether the US government should forgive student debt during the COVID-19 pandemic. This practice report analyzes the semantic noise in the simultaneous interpreting and explores coping strategies.Starting from the causes of semantic noise, the semantic noise can be divided into three categories: semantic noise caused by semantic redundancy, semantic noise caused by simplification, and semantic noise caused by cultural factors.Specific case studies are conducted and plentiful methods are concluded. Methods such as prediction, addition, omission, transformation can be adopted. This practice report summarizes problems shown in the simultaneous interpreting of public debates and provides interpreting strategies.During this process, the interpreter not only improved the ability of interpreting, but also accumulated practical experience of interpreting.Hopefully, this report can provide references for other interpreting tasks of public debates.
