A Report On CAT+MT+PE Mode Based Law Firm Website Translation Practice From The Perspective Of Translation Variation Theory

This report is completed based on the “YK Law Firm’s Website Translation” project.Due to the heavy workload and tight delivery period of this project,the implementation of it requires a special and efficient translation mode.Thus,the CAT+MT+PE translation mode has become an ideal and rational choice to achieve the balance between translation efficiency and quality,due to its unique advantages including fast translation speed,powerful QA function,etc.In this translation practice,the author first completed the translation task based on the CAT + MT + PE translation mode,then classified MT errors,and suggested corresponding improvements as well.At last,the author evaluated the merits and demerits of this translation mode.In this practice,the author selects Yi CAT and Baidu Translate as project platforms.After making quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,the author summarizes twelve typical MT error types at three levels,namely lexical level,syntactic level and other errors.Meanwhile,translation variation theory is adopted as the guiding theory during the process of PE.In this practice,the author finds that the common cause of MT errors lies in the inability of MT system to recognize complicated logical relations within sentences.The author hopes to enhance translators’ sensitivity towards MT errors by summarizing error types of MT so that they can make corresponding revisions quickly,thus improving the efficiency of PE.At the same time,the author hopes to improve the quality of MT by adopting targeted strategies against the causes of MT errors.The author hopes that this report could provide references for the improvement of MT quality and the enhancement of PE efficiency.Meanwhile,since there are a few studies on the CAT+MT+PE mode,the author hopes that this report can further enrich relevant study on this mode and make some contribution to the promotion of this mode.
