Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu is a novel of Shishuo-style Storybook.collected by Lin Maogui in the Ming Dynasty and commented by Zhan Zizhong,which is based on the history of the Nan Shi and Bei Shi and specializes in the stories of the Northern and Southern Dynasties,with rich characters and events from historical facts,concise and timeless language.As one of the novels of Shishuo-style Storybook,this book has both inheritance and innovation in the style,language and content of Shi Shuo Xin Yu The whole book of Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu consists of four volumes,volume 1 including 15 categories of filial piety,loyaity,strict,and upright volume 2 including 16 categories of character,reputation,learning,and description,and volume 3 including 16 categories of palace,favor,removal of titles,and political achievements,Volume 3includes 16 categories,of palace,favors,removal of titles,political deeds,etc.Volume 4 includes 15 categories,such as niggardly,extravagant,slight,absurd and pride.The book has a total of 2300 stories,recording anecdotes of literati and other groups during the Northern and Southern Dynasties.It is a "photo collection" of literati from the Southern and Northern Dynasties and also reflects the inheritance of Wei-Jin Demeanor by the people of the Southern and Northern Dynasties.The review is divided into two parts: the current status of research on Ming Dynasty Shishuo-style Storybook and the current status of research on Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu.Since Ning Jiayu proposed the concept of Shishuo-style Storybook,Shishuo-style Storybook has gained more attention in academic circles,and the study of Shishuo-style Storybook in Ming Dynasty has been flourishing.And the types of research are also rich,including preface and postscript research,compilation method and style research,moral outlook research,etc.There are fewer studies on Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu,.Other studies on Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu are mostly scattered in the study of Shishuo-style Storybook.The first chapter examines and explains Lin Maogui’s life and the compilation intentions and style of Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu.Lin Maogui’s intention of compiling the novel is to admire Shi Shuo Xin Yu,express his thoughts,and serve as a model for future generations,and Lin Maogui’s style is based on Shi Shuo Xin Yu,and he has added many entries to the categories of the Shi Shuo Xin Yu,,especially the category of "Museum".The categories are new and innovative.The style of Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu is mainly reflected in the following aspects:Arrange stories by category,the subordination of categories,the narration according to people,the praise and criticism of grades,the continuity of paragraphs,and the interconnectedness.The second chapter analyzes the ideological connotations of Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu,revealing that the content of Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu embodies Confucianism,Wei-Jin Demeanor,and Buddhist doctrine.The first is the embodiment of Confucianism,which is mainly the continuation of the four disciplines of Confucius.Secondly,it is a continuation of the Wei-Jin Demeanor embodied in Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu.Finally,it is the presentation of Buddhism and monks of the Northern and Southern Dynasties in the Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu.The third chapter analyzes the characterization of Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu.Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu is a collection of various characterizations of the Northern and Southern Dynasties,with rich character types Such as literati,officials,emperors,Buddhists,hermits,women,children,etc.It also has different characterization techniques.The novel Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu is all based on Nan Shi and Bei Shi,dividing the deeds of different characters into different categories,and integrating and cutting historical materials according to the categories,Thus,Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu portrays characters not only by the historical materials themselves,but also by Lin Maogui through the selection and cutting of materials.The fourth chapter analyzes the linguistic characteristics of the Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu,The use of folk rhymes and homophonic characters in Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu gives the language a sharp and humorous feature which is short in length and contains great meaning in small words.Add a profound and meaningful feature to the language of Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu.Due to its source in official history,Nan Bei Chao Xin Yu has the language characteristics of being concise and meticulous in Nan Shi and Bei Shi.Lin Maogui uses cutting and splicing methods to handle the content of historical materials,making the language more concise and in line with the language characteristics of the Shishuo-style Storybook,which is concise and mysterious.
