Lack Or Misuse Of Cohesive Devices In Chinese To English Consecutive Interpretation And Solutions

Consecutive interpretation is one of the important forms of conference interpretation.For one thing,it is time-sensitive.In order to avoid awkward silence or causing distress to the audience,the interpreter must start interpreting quickly after the speaker has finished speaking.For another,it requires the interpreter to take notes while listening,and to reorganize the information acquired from the notes and short-term memory at the same time.In the actual interpreting scene,however,interpreters may face many special difficulties that may affect their performance on the spot.This requires the interpreter to not only possess sufficient background knowledge,be proficient at bilingual conversion,and speak in accordance with the language habits of the target language,but also comprehend information while listening,grasp the core of the speech quickly,and organize the language in a reasonable and appropriate manner,so that the words are logical,clear,smooth,and coherent when interpreting.Interpreters can achieve these goals by establishing good text awareness and using cohesive devices appropriately.Based on Halliday’s theory of cohesion,this paper aims to explore the manifestations,causes and improvement strategies of the lack or improper application of articulation devices in the mock conference,Challenges and Innovations of Deepening Medical Reform.It is hoped that the results of this paper can serve as a reference for future interpretation practice,reminding interpreters to strengthen the cultivation of text awareness in their daily training,to cultivate the ability of grasping the core of the source language,and to fully and reasonably use various cohesive devices to ensure that the interpretation is clearly structured,naturally expressed,accurately meaningful and easy to understand.
