In teaching Chinese as a foreign language, teaching Chinese characters has always been a difficult task. How to establish the connection between the sound and form of Chinese characters and improve the efficiency of Chinese character learning has always been a concern. The sound side of morphophonetic characters is a good way to establish the connection between the sound and the form of Chinese characters,so using the characteristics of the sound side of morphophonetic characters is an important breakthrough. In this paper,a 3*2 two-factor experimental design was used to examine the effects of the epigraphic degree and the amount of word construction on learners’ acquisition and guessing of the pronunciation of morphemes.20 intermediate and advanced level non-Kanji culture circle learners participated in three morphemes learning tasks and completed three learning word tests and one transfer word test. The results showed that:(1)the high phoneticity of the phonetic side was the most helpful to learners in guessing the pronunciation of unfamiliar characters, while the medium and low phoneticity of the phonetic side was not so helpful to learners in guessing the pronunciation of unfamiliar characters;(2)the high phoneticity of the phonetic side was more helpful to learners in guessing the pronunciation of unfamiliar characters than the low phoneticity of the phonetic side;(3)the interaction between the phoneticity of the phonetic side and the phoneticity of the phonetic side was significant,as shown by the fact that the phoneticity of the phonetic side(3)The interaction between the phoneticity of the phonetic component and the amount of the phonetic component is significant,in that the higher the phoneticity of the phonetic component, the greater the effect on learners’ guessing the pronunciation of unfamiliar characters;and the larger the amount of the phonetic component, the greater the effect on learners’ guessing the pronunciation of unfamiliar characters. The results of the study provide targeted pedagogical suggestions and insights for teaching morpho-phonetic Chinese characters. It is beneficial for learners to establish the types of phonetic side that link Chinese characters to their phonetic sounds,so that learners can form a net-like cognitive structure that combines points, lines and surfaces with phonetic side to bring Chinese characters together, and thus learn Chinese characters faster and better.
