Problems Of Note-Taking In Chinese To English Consecutive Interpreting And Coping Strategies

In consecutive interpreting,efficient notes can help interpreters recall and analyze information so that they can successfully convey the logic and content of a speech to audience and thus achieve good performance.The thesis pinpoints note-taking problems and suggests coping strategies based on the author’s performance during the Challenges and Innovations in Advancing the Medical Reform mock conference.The thesis first sums up three criteria for efficient note-taking,and then locates and analyzes 15 typical cases in author’s notes.Three major problems are founded in the notes,which are inaccurate logic,incomplete content,and poor readability and legibility.They include confusing essential and non-essential logical information,improper logical coordination,missing logical notes and other information,notes confusing and unrecognizable characters.Finally,the thesis suggests three solutions,which are ensuring taking down right logic,balancing note-taking against message-capturing,and establishing a note-taking system and writing clearly,to achieve efficient note-taking in consecutive interpreting.
