The Study Of Balanced Beauty In Bonnard’s Paintings

Pierre Bonnard(1867-1947)was a renowned French painter and a founding member of the post-Impressionist group Les Nabis(meaning "the Prophets" in Hebrew and Arabic).He was adept at exploring composition,color,light and shade through observation and sketching,using imagination and memory as references and subjectively dealing with the objects depicted.His works have a strong decorative and pictorially balanced beauty.Bonnard has gathered the essence of hundreds of artists and through exploration and innovation has developed his own unique artistic style.His pictures may appear to be highly accidental,but the viewer can feel the painter’s perception of the external world and interaction with the internal world in practice,and admire his profound artistic attainment and the spirit of continuous exploration and innovation in painting.This thesis presents a systematic analysis of the balanced beauty in Bonnard’s paintings,based on theoretical knowledge from art aesthetics and art psychology etc.,using various research methods such as literature,cases and experiments,and combining with author’s painting practice,through four chapters of analysis and elaboration,the balance of Bonnard’s paintings is explored in depth: Firstly,the concept,categories and meaning of balance are described to understand the balance in painting;secondly,the artistic charm of Bonnard’s works is presented by analyzing the balance of picture structure,the balance of color,the balance of light and shadow,and the balance of rational and sensual;then,the influence of Bonnard on Chinese artists is explored;finally,the beauty of balance in Bonnard’s paintings is explained to inspire the author’s watercolor creation.
