| In recent years, with the implementation of the new college entrance examination policy, the career education of high school students has received extensive attention. However, most career education are only limit to school education, ignoring the perspective of family education.Consequently,it is difficult to correspond the influence of parents on children’s career development with school education, and the effectiveness of career education is greatly reduced. Therefore,it is of great significance to explore how to carry out career education at the family and how family education affects career development. In the field of family career education,we focus on career-specific parental behaviors, adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, and explores the structure and characteristics of career-specific parental behaviors and its impact on children’s career choice through three studies. The details are below:Study 1: In order to construct the structure of localized career-specific parental behaviors,a qualitative research method was adopted. On one hand,217 high school students reported their career-specific parental behaviors through the open questionnaires, and on the other hand,semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 high school students and 8 parents. After summarizing the two aspects of the text data, the grounded theory was used for coding analysis. The results showed that the career education behavior of Chinese high school students’ parents is a multi-dimensional structure, which mainly includes three aspects: career support, career interference, and career absence.Study 2: In order to measure the career-specific parental behaviors of high school students in China, the items were compiled based on the results of Study 1 and the related prior scales.According to the results of two investigations for high school students, using exploratory factor analysis, exploratory structural equation model and confirmatory factor analysis,a 20-item Career-Specific Parental Behaviors Scale was finally compiled, which is consist of three dimensions: support, interference, and absence. The support dimension is further divided into three sub-dimensions: support and encouragement, provision of resources, and communication and guidance. The scale had good internal consistency reliability(the alpha coefficients of the three major dimensions are.92 、.75 and.75 respectively, and the alpha coefficients of the sub-dimensions are.80 、.87 and.84respectively).The correlations between the dimensions of the scale and the dimensions of foreign scales are in line with expectations, reflecting good validity.Study 3: In order to explore the relationship among high school students’ careerspecific parental behaviors, satisfaction of basic psychological needs and career decisionmaking difficulties,a questionnaire survey was conducted on 738 high school students in Anhui and Jiangsu provinces.results showed that:(1)The parental career supports reported by males were significantly higher than that of females, but there was no significant gender difference in career interference and career absence;parental career support, career interference and career absence are all significantly different in grades.Overall, the higher the grade, the more parental career support and less interference and absence.(2)High school students’ parental career support was significantly positively correlated with the satisfaction of basic psychological needs, and significantly negatively correlated with career decision-making difficulties;both parental career interference and career absence were significantly negatively correlated with the satisfaction of basic psychological needs, and significantly positively correlated with career decision-making difficulties.(3)Satisfaction of basic psychological needed plays a suppression role between career support and career decision-making difficulties, and plays a partial mediating role between career interference/career absence and career decision-making difficulties. |
