| As an important branch of children’s literature,fairy tales play an important role in children’s growth.The translation of foreign fairy tales can enrich children readers’ knowledge of foreign cultures and broaden their horizons.As a prominent writer of children’s literature,Bing Xin’s translation of Indian Fairy Tales is widely welcomed by Chinese children.Based on the theory of reception aesthetics,this thesis analyzes Bing Xin’s translation of Indian Fairy Tales from three aspects: childishness,accuracy,and acceptability.The primary principle of fairy tale translation is “translating for children”.Fairy tale translation should take children readers’ aesthetic characteristics and acceptance level,as well as the language difference into account.Through text analysis,the thesis finds that the characteristics of fairy tale translation and Bing Xin’s translation strategies conform to the core conceptions of reception theory.Since the main audience of fairy tales are children who love fantasy and imagination,the language of fairy tales should be full of childishness.In this regard,interjections,er-hua words,reduplicated words,and rhetorical devices can be used to enhance the childishness of the text to stimulate the reading interest of children readers.Fairy tales play an important educational role in children’s growth.The translator should use accurate words to give full play to the educational function of fairy tales so that children can broaden their knowledge in reading.For the translation of culture-loaded words,the translator should consider the acceptance level of children and adopt accurate translation strategies to fill in the “gaps”in the text caused by cultural differences.Due to the limited acceptance level of children,concise and vivid colloquial sentences can be adopted to meet the reading habits of children readers.The language structure of the translation should conform to the linguistic characteristics and logical order of Chinese.In this respect,the translator can shift long sentences into short ones and adjust word order to reduce the reading barrier of children readers. |
