| Based on the basic requirements of the English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(Experiment)formulated by the Ministry of Education,FLTRP revised the New Standard High School English Textbooks which were put into use in Qingdao in September2019.According to the requirements of the new college entrance examination,the New Standard High School English Textbooks establish a knowledge system of high school English,paying attention to the cultivation of students’ comprehensive language application ability,deepening the practical value of high school English,and putting forward the new and higher requirements for teachers’ teaching.The purpose of this survey is to investigate the use of the New Standard High School English Textbooks,in order to understand the evaluation of teachers and students on the content of the textbooks and the difficulties encountered by teachers and students in the process of using them.At the same time,it helps teachers to reflect on the teaching methods and provides feasible suggestions for better utilizing the New Standard High School English Textbooks.From the perspective of teaching and learning,this study mainly discusses the following questions:(1)How satisfied are teachers and students with the New Standard High School English Textbooks?(2)Dose the New Standard High School English Textbooks meet the teaching needs of teachers?(3)Does the New Standard High School English Textbooks meet the learning needs of students?In this study,90 high school English teachers and 500 students from three ordinary high schools in Qingdao were selected as research objects.Based on the requirements of the new curriculum standards,questionnaires,interviews and other research methods were used to investigate the use of the New Standard High School English Textbooks from two dimensions of teachers and students.Finally,SPSS statistical software was used for quantitative analysis of the questionnaire data,and the interview records were summarized.Through this survey,the author found that both teachers and students are generally satisfied with the New Standard High School English Textbooks.The New Standard High School English Textbooks meet the basic requirements of the “New Curriculum Standards”for language knowledge,language skills,cultural awareness,emotional attitudes,and learning strategies,especially emphasizing the cultivation of core literacy in the English subject and improving students’ comprehensive language application ability,which meets the teaching needs of teachers and the learning needs of students.However,through the research,the author also found some shortcomings of the New Standard High School English Textbooks,such as the large vocabulary,and some of them have low practicability,and the difficulty level of discourse is high in the textbooks which becomes a certain challenge for students with weak English foundations.In addition,the textbooks overemphasize the enhancement of language ability while ignoring the actual English proficiency of the students,making it difficult to ensure the learning effectiveness.Therefore,the New Standard High School English Textbooks need further improvement,and teachers should continuously improve their professional skills and actively use them. |
