A Study On The Current Situation Of High School Students’ Participation In English Cooperative Learning

In the process of new curriculum reform,student-orientation cooperative learning is becoming more and more popular.Generally speaking,the more students are involved in the learning process,the more effective the teaching and learning will be.However,with the widespread use of cooperative learning,the form of learning activities is greater than the content,and students’ participation is not high,which seriously affects the efficiency of teaching and learning.Therefore,how to improve students’ participation and effectively play the role of cooperative learning is a problem that needs to be urgently solved in high school English teaching.This study takes 314 students from a senior high school in H City,Anhui Province as the research object,mainly uses questionnaire survey and interview method,and combines classroom observation to investigate the current situation of senior high school students’ participation in English cooperative learning.It uses quantitative and qualitative methods to discuss the following questions:(1)what is the current situation of student participation in English cooperative learning in high school?(2)Are there differences in the participation of high school students with different genders,roles and English proficiency in cooperative learning?(3)What are the problems of students’ participation in cooperative learning in high school English classes? What are the causes of these problems?The conclusions are as follows:(1)The overall level of students’ participation is moderate to high,students’ behavioral participation is slightly higher than emotional participation,followed by cognitive participation.In the aspect of behavior participation,students’ performance of study is more than that of concentration.In terms of cognitive participation,students’ deep participation is more than superficial participation and dependent participation.In terms of emotional participation,students’ sense of fun and achievement is more than anxiety and boredom.(2)There were significant differences in the variables of concentration and sense of fun between the sexes.Girls’ concentration performance was higher than boys’,and girls were more likely to have fun than boys.In terms of concentration and study variables,class leaders are more active in activities than non-class leaders.There is a significant difference in the variables of study and boredom in English level.The study performance of students in high-level group is higher than that of students in low-level group,and the boredom performance of students in low-level group is higher than that of students in high-level group.(3)The main problems of high school students’ participation in cooperative learning are the polarization of students’ participation,the lack of depth of students’ participation and the single form of students’ participation,while students’ personality,English level,language ability and other reasons affect students’ participation.Based on the results of this study,some suggestions are put forward to improve students’ participation in English cooperative learning from the perspectives of teachers and students,that is,setting reasonable expectations to guide student participation;designing cooperative content to stimulate motivation for participation;establishing good relationships to create a questioning atmosphere;teaching learning strategies to increase student participation;raising role expectations to participate in classroom management;and reflecting on the cooperative journey to improve overall competence.
