The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education issued by the Ministry of Education in 2022 emphasizes that students should have the ability to communicate across cultures,solve problems,make correct value judgments,and master scientific learning methods.The development of students’ core literacy can be achieved through deep learning,and the adaptability of deep learning and core literacy makes more and more researches integrate deep learning with teaching.However,there are relatively few researches on deep learning in primary school English,and most of them focus on English reading teaching in middle and high school or college students’ teaching.This study is aimed at students in grade 5 and 6of primary school,focusing not only on students’ knowledge,ability,thinking and learning strategies,but also on students’ English learning motivation and learning engagement.This study uses questionnaire survey and interview to investigate the English learning status of senior primary school students.The questionnaire survey is aimed at students and investigates the situation of English learning from students’ subjective feelings.The interview is aimed at the teacher and explains the students’ English learning from the perspective of the teacher.Through the analysis of the data and content obtained from the questionnaire survey and teacher interview,it is found that there is still a large gap between the senior primary school students surveyed in this study and the requirements of deep learning.At the same time,according to the content of teacher interviews,this study analyzes the influencing factors that restrict the occurrence of deep learning from the aspect of teaching,including the lack of interest in teaching activities;the teaching content is divorced from the life situation;lack of comprehensiveness and innovation in teaching tasks;the teaching process neglects students’ independent inquiry;teaching evaluation lacks pertinence and continuity.On this basis,the teaching strategies to promote English deep learning for senior primary school students are designed,including: setting up classroom games to increase classroom interest;Adopt reward and punishment mechanism to create a competitive atmosphere;Strengthen the connection of all kinds of knowledge and cultivate the ability of transfer;Create a real situation to improve students’ sense of experience and transfer ability;Try teaching to develop students’ problem-solving ability;Inquiry teaching to develop students’ higher order thinking;Create conflict and provoke thought and inquiry;Evaluate and improve,and cultivate the ability of reflection.Finally,this study selects the corresponding teaching content according to the English listening,speaking,reading and writing modules from the human-taught version of the primary school English textbook,integrates the designed teaching strategies into the primary school English teaching process,and provides more specific teaching examples for front-line teachers to realize the deep learning of English for senior primary school students.
