At the dawn of 2020,people around the world were disrupted by a new epidemic,and instead of feeling the joy of the New Year,they witnessed a major disaster in human history unfolding around the world.In recent years,the world has witnessed a variety of disasters,from natural disasters such as the flash floods in Indonesia and the tsunami caused by the earthquake in Japan,to accidents such as the oil pipeline explosion in Mexico and the crash of the Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane.As a vehicle for transmitting culture to audiences,cinema can record the real,as well as represent disasters.In recent years,Korean disaster films have been growing rapidly,gaining acclaim not only from Korean audiences but also from audiences in other countries.Unlike other genres,disaster films reveal the nature of human beings in critical situations when disaster strikes.This thesis examines Korean disaster films,focusing on their creative characteristics.In order to explore the creation of Korean disaster films,this thesis focuses on the following aspects: firstly,it gives an overview of the development of Korean disaster films,understands the causes of Korean disaster films and the general development time of Korean disaster films,and sorts out the three periods of exploration,development and maturity of Korean disaster films;secondly,it explores the theme construction of Korean disaster films,classifies the themes of Korean disaster films,and analyses the themes of Korean disaster films.Secondly,it explores the construction of themes in Korean disaster films,classifies the themes of Korean disaster films,and analyses the themes of reality and fantasy,and human nature in Korean disaster films;thirdly,it analyses the portrayal of three types of characters in Korean disaster films,namely the positive and the negative,and the wise man;finally,it summarises the narrative characteristics of Korean disaster films.
