| The development of science and technology has brought about great changes in the world of language teaching, and the traditional teaching methods have been constantly changed by the emerging technologies. In particular, since 2020,the COVID19 pandemic has restricted the activity space of both teachers and students, and online education has been rapidly expanding.Scientific and technological means drive the change of the form of education, and the participants in the teaching activities are actively or passively accepting such changes. In such a context, the English Language Learning and Technology, which is an academic work mainly studying the interaction between computer technology and applied linguistics was noticed. It discusses the changes that the author has observed in the English teaching field under the influence of science and technology during his decades of teaching career, which is of highly reading value. Moreover, translation quality is a subject that no translation practitioner can avoid.According to House’s model, translation is “the reconstruction of one language in another language”,and translators need to reconstruct the equivalence of register in the target language context.House’s theory of translation quality assessment is derived from systemic functional linguistics.Following Halliday’s register theory, that is,field, tenor and mode, she proposed eight parameters of specific register equivalence. With the continuous development and improvement of House’s theory, these parameters were also revised and updated. The Assessment parameters adopted in this translation project are the latest versions, which are come from the Translation Quality Assessment: Past and Present in 2015.They are the subject matter, the social action, the author’s provenance, the author’s relationship, the social attitude, the participation, the medium and the connectivity. This report takes English Language learning and technology,an academic text on foreign language education, and takes the equivalence of eight parameters proposed by House as the guiding principle in the actual work of translation. The translator analyzed the original text from three aspects: field, tenor and mode, and register features of the original text are also what the target text should have. The translator strives to reflect the professional, objective and rigorous academic language features of the field of the original text.In terms of tenor,it reflects the author’s identity and discourse characteristics as a university professor. And for mode, the rhetorical style and writing characteristics of the original text are reflected as much as possible. From the perspective of register equivalence,House’s model provides a clear framework for translators to analyze translation ideas and it is a result-oriented theory that guides translation practice in reverse. It is hoped that the report can also provide translation practitioners with some translation experience in the translation of academic texts. |
