Historically,comic strip art has a positive impact on the inheritance of Chinese history and culture.Narrative paintings appeared in the portrait stones of the Western Han Dynasty,such as "Seven Uncles Eat Snakes","Two Peaches Kill Three Scholars",etc.,which can be called the earliest comic strip in China.From the 1960 s to the1980 s after the founding of New China,the creative theme of comic strips kept pace with the times,recording the humanistic thoughts of this period,which more vividly and intuitively reflected the real social life than the written materials.From this perspective,comic strip is a special type of literary work,and the ideological connotation and art form it expresses have an important impact on people nowadays.Zhang Yanyuan,a famous painter in the Tang Dynasty,once said in the Record of Famous Paintings of the Dynasties that painting has the educational function of "teaching and helping people",and highlighted the significance of moral education in painting.As a popular and easy-to-popular art form,comic strips are one of the most direct ways for people to understand the world and acquire new knowledge.It maximizes the educational function of images.In the context of the new era,the development of comic strips has also promoted the vigorous development of Chinese figure painting,and more works with the characteristics of the times have emerged,opening up a new path for the development of Chinese art.This paper selects the "A Dream of Red Mansions" series created by Wang Shuhui,a painter who has made great achievements in the field of figure painting and comic strip painting,as the research object,explores the creative method of combining comic strip painting and figure painting,as well as the relationship between its creative concept,subject matter content and painting expression form,and makes a new exploration of figure painting,analyzes the reasons for the formation of Wang Shuhui’s artistic style,and explores how to transform literary works into painting art works combining figure painting and comic strip painting.Summarize her artistic expression form that combines figure painting with comic strips.This paper takes the unique literary and plot characteristics of comic strips as the starting point to study Wang Shuhui’s "A Dream of Red Mansions".This work adopts the form of fine brushwork and heavy color figure painting,which is very different from the general sense of comic strips in visual effect.She uses the traditional linear meticulous technique,trying to explore the organic connection between figure painting and traditional comic strips,reflecting her artistic attitude of daring to innovate on the basis of absorbing tradition,and making the works full of sense of the times.On this basis,it further explores how to create works that not only conform to the context of the new era but also conform to the tradition,and promote the new development of Chinese traditional painting in the era of multi-information convergence,East-West cultural integration,and exchange and collision of Chinese and foreign artistic trends of thought.
