| This article discusses and studies the "meaning" bestowed on the central line of contemporary painting by artists.According to the background of modernism and the awareness of the times,discussing the gradual display of the indispensable role of lines in painting,the "meaning" of lines gradually took shape and extended to the contemporary era.The "meaning" of lines has undergone more diverse changes in contemporary artists’ paintings,and is refined by collecting relevant works and the stories,concepts,and emotions behind them.The article will first clarify the definition of "meaning" in Bell’s works by discussing the "meaningful form" mentioned in Clive Bell’s book,and list the two most representative artists who first presented the language form of "line" in their works during the modernist period-Cezanne and Van Gogh.In his work,the analysis of the new role of lines emerged for the first time after breaking away from traditional modeling patterns.Then explore the creations of Willem De Kooning and Jackson Pollock,as well as their life experiences.The "meaning" of lines first appeared in paintings during the modernist period,and the "meaning" of this period conforms to Bell’s first definition of "meaning"-aesthetic emotion or unique emotional experience.Combining the life experiences and emotional experiences of both parties,analyze the different appearances of lines as emotional carriers in the screen from the work.Finally,it details two contemporary artists,Cy Twombly and Julie Mehretu.The "meaning" in the center line of contemporary art works conforms to Bell’s second definition of "meaning"-the ultimate reality,which can be embodied in a very diverse manner in the hands of every artist.The article lists the most representative parts of their contemporary art works,and expounds the different "meanings" contained therein in combination with the current social environment. |
