| This English-Chinese translation report concerns itself with three sections from the book Cambridge Grammar of English,involving adjectives,adverbs,prepositions,and word formation.As a well-known English grammar book,it challenges some traditional ideas and provides insightful and critical ideas about the whole system of English.Unlike the traditional dictionaries and grammars of English treating the written language as the standard,this book focuses on the spoken language,which is taken from the Cambridge International Corpus(CIC).Based on the modern linguistic theories,it explores every aspect of English in different topics.This translation report is organized from the following aspects: introduction,translation process,the difficulties,the responding methods and a conclusion.The report focuses on the specific difficulties and the responding methods,which are discussed at the lexical and syntactical levels.Specifically,at the lexical level,the translation methods include extension,omission and conversion.At the syntactic level,inversion,voice conversion and addition are employed.Several typical examples are discussed to illustrate the responding methods.In the end,the report summarizes the achievements and limitations of the translation.Especially,the translation of the terminologies provides a reference for the translation of other similar English grammar books.This report can also enlighten the translation of the academic papers and books.However,the translation report has several limitations,including the poor language expression and its failure to embrace all the difficulties and solutions involved. |
