Multimodal Metaphor And Metonymy Analysis Of The Anti-Corruption Feature Film "Zero Tolerance"

Media discourse is becoming increasingly multimodal,and multimodal metonymy and metaphor have become important tool for media publicity.In political communication,political discourse constructs abstract explanations and understandings of specific political issues by activating the multiple interactions of metaphor and metonymy,promotes the dissemination of political events,and shapes public opinion.Anti-corruption feature films are an important means of political dissemination in China.Discussing the use of multimodal metaphors and metonymy in anti-corruption feature films has certain references for improving the communication effect of anti-corruption feature films,telling China’s anti-corruption stories well,and doing a good job in the political dissemination of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.This study used the TV feature film "Zero Tolerance" jointly produced by The Publicity Department of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and China Media Group as an analysis sample,with 15cases(involving 23 corrupt figures).Referring to multimodal metaphor,multimodal metonymy mode,and multimodal metaphor and metonymy interaction theory,to study the use and interaction process of multimodal metaphors and metonymy of the corrupt figures and their corruption facts in the case.A large number of multimodal metaphors and metonymy are used in the feature film.Modal combinations mainly include text + visual modality,text + auditory modality,auditory + text modality,text + auditory + visual modality.Among them,text and visual modalities carry the most metaphors.From the content level,12 types of thematic metaphors are summarized: physical metaphor,character action metaphor,biological metaphor,natural environment metaphor,allusion policy metaphor,architectural metaphor,traffic metaphor,medical metaphor,economic metaphor,other metaphor,hunting metaphor,and educational metaphor.From the technical level,threetypes of metaphors are summarized: perspective metaphor,color metaphor,and stability metaphor.Metonymy in spatial and temporal domains is common,and metonymic patterns in behavior,time,process domain,and set domain are more prominent in multimodal discourse.Multimodal metonymy and metaphors present mutually inclusive and mutually based relationships.From the fall process of corrupt characters,the metaphors and metonymic strategies of the three major corrupt characters are sorted out,that is,success stereotyped and desire materialized.Initially directed,the choice is steered.Power symbolization,law and discipline deterrent.In summary,the anti-corruption feature film mainly presents the following conclusion: First,it highlights key topics and demonstrates the country’s determination to fight corruption.The second is the use of diversified value symbols,and the symbol of "national identity" has frequently emerged.Third,text and visual modes are the dominant meaning-building modalities and construct meaning spaces.Fourth,metaphor and metonymy interact deeply to complete the construction of an anti-corruption narrative.Based on the above conclusions,this paper puts forward the following suggestions: first,to make the anti-corruption picture three-dimensional and creatively transform the issue;The second is to let value symbols more diversified and construct meaning through soft implantation combined with implantation;The third is to activate diversified modes and strengthen the interaction between metaphor and metonymy;The fourth is to create an embedded transmission and reception relationship so that political propaganda can lead to political communication.
