The art exchange between China and Singapore can be traced back to the development of transportation modes between the two countries.Since the Han Dynasty,Chinese silk,as a carrier of clothing art,has become an important commodity exported from ancient China to the South Ocean.Ceramics were sold to the South Ocean in the Tang Dynasty as an important plastic art.Art exchanges between China and Singapore continued until 1949.Literature,1919 as the boundary, produced the new and old MCA literature. The former originated from the surge of the number of Chinese workers in Nanyang and the Qing government’s measures to send officials there, while the latter was influenced by the May 4th Movement and the New Culture Movement. In drama, the genre known in the vernacular as "Wayang" is derived from the Chinese rural drama in which gods are paid. After the Chinese drama art was introduced into Singapore,it gradually divided into two forms:entertaining professional troupes and amateur troupes with both artistic and public welfare.Because of its strong social function, the amateur troupe is supported and its development momentum gradually surpasses that of professional troupe. In terms of film,Chinese films had an important impact on Singapore society in three periods, from 1912 to 1931,1931 to 1942,and 1945 to 1949.Shaw Brothers’ film company also began experimenting with local films in Singapore...At that time,Singapore art was exerting influence on China in the form of overseas Chinese returning home and Chinese cultural figures returning home.Between 1949 and 1989,the cultural and artistic exchanges between China and Singapore decreased due to the conflicts between the two countries in terms of political system and ideology, but Chinese art did not completely disappear in Singapore. In literature, bilingual education policies regard English as an important practical language, which has crowded the development space of Chinese education, and Chinese literature has also been affected and entered a period of decline. In the aspect of drama,Chinese performing groups no longer went to Singapore at this time.Opera films played an important role.On the one hand, they provided the audience with high-level opera programs and presented the Yue Opera and Huangmei Opera to the Singapore audience for the first time.On the other hand,it also provides resources for local drama practitioners to learn and avoids the interruption of the spread of Chinese opera art in Singapore. In terms of film and television, the transmission of Chinese films in Singapore has experienced a process of interruption and recovery. At this time, the opportunities for Singapore art to spread and influence in China are obviously reduced, but there is still a trail to follow.Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Singapore in1990,cultural and artistic exchanges between the two sides have gradually resumed. In literature, the literary exchanges between China and Singapore after the establishment of diplomatic ties include personnel visits, book publishing, academic conferences and literary competitions. The influence of Chinese online novels in Southeast Asia is increasing day by day, while Singapore’s urban literature has become the main force of ASEAN publishing in China. In terms of drama, related activities such as performance exchanges, academic discussions and co-creation of works are also carried out in an orderly manner. It is worth noting that under the new social environment, professional theatre in Singapore is gradually declining, and non-profit amateur theatre companies introduce their drama art to the world through some innovative methods. In the field of film and television, the two sides have introduced many films and TV series to each other and carried out many film and television exchange activities. In 2010,a film co-production agreement was signed, further deepening the cooperation in film and television. At present, there are some unbroken barriers in the cultural and artistic exchanges between China and Singapore. For example, the art exchange system is not perfect due to the problems in the subject, field and level of exchange. The "cultural discount" caused by the different cultural environment, social and linguistic differences between the two countries; The obstacles caused by Singapore’s "Great power balance" strategy abroad and its efforts to build a "Singapore identity" at home are the artistic interactions between China and Singapore. To this end,we should firstly take corresponding measures to improve the subject, field and level of artistic exchange between the two sides.Secondly,by carrying forward the cultural values of the "sea silk" community with a shared future and giving play to the important role of the homology of the Confucian cultural circle, the two countries should strengthen the common cultural identity. Finally, the two sides should enhance political mutual trust and maintain a safe cultural distance,so as to give full play to the role of the Belt and Road cultural alliance platform.
