A Comparative Study Of Numerals Translation In The Art Of War Based On Chinese-Russian Parallel Corpus

memory and unique national soul.As an important part of Chinese excellent traditional culture and a splendid treasure of ancient Chinese military cultural heritage,The Art of War has unique significance and extraordinary position in the treasure house of Chinese classics with its profound content and profound thoughts.It has been more than a thousand years since The Art of War went abroad to the world.It has not only achieved complete domestic diachronic communication,but also successfully carried out cross-cultural communication abroad.It is not only the unique cultural heritage of the Chinese nation,but also the common spiritual wealth of the people of the world.In today’s world,countries have closer ties and more frequent cultural exchanges.President Xi has repeatedly emphasized "telling Chinese stories well and spreading Chinese voices well",which makes it particularly important to promote Chinese culture to the world.Chinese classics are an important carrier and true portrayal of Chinese culture.To promote Chinese culture to the world,we must first promote Chinese classics to the world.As great countries in Asia and Europe,China and Russia have a long history and profound cultural heritage,and each has a developed and perfect language system,which has certain similarities and significant differences.Numerals,as an important part of language and writing system,play an essential role in choosing words and making sentences.Numerals can express both numerical and non-numerical meanings,quantity and order,precise counting and rough counting.Therefore,numerals are contradictory unity of concreteness and abstraction,finiteness and infinity,precision and fuzziness.Chinese numerals have the dual functions of expressing numbers and meanings,and contains profound cultural significance and unique national color.Numeral translation needs to follow specific translation principles,adopt flexible translation strategies and use appropriate translation methods.Corpus-based approach provides new ideas and new paths for translation studies.Corpus translation studies emphasize the combination of quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis,pay attention to case verification,highlight objectivity and accuracy,and effectively avoid the disadvantages of traditional translation studies.Through the self-built Chinese-Russian parallel corpus of The Art of War,we can accurately count the number of words and the frequency of translation,thus providing data support for comparing the similarities and differences between versions.This thesis focuses on the translation of numerals.Through a comparative analysis of the similarities and differences between Conrad’s,Maliavin’s and Shi Yaohua’s Russian versions,it summarizes the translation methods of numerals,evaluates the translation strategies of numerals,and sums up the principles of numerals.Firstly,it introduces the general situation of The Art of War and its translation and introduction,focusing on the history and present situation of its translation and introduction and research in Russia;Secondly,it clarifies the scope and specific classification of numerals in The Art of War,and puts forward that they can be classified from three levels: internal form,grammatical meaning and lexical meaning;Thirdly,it discusses the corpus of The Art of War for translation studies,including the types and conclusions of the existing corpus of The Art of War translation studies,the construction and application of the Chinese-Russian parallel corpus of The Art of War,focusing on the selection of Chinese original text and Russian translation;Finally,according to the lexical meaning,the numerals in The Art of War are divided into nine categories:calculation,sequence,fraction,multiple,approximate number,metonymy,exaggeration,contrast and entirety,by using self-built corpus,adopting the method of combining quantitative statistics with qualitative analysis,comparing and analyzing the commonness and individuality of Conrad’s,Maliavin’s and Shi Yaohua’s versions,this paper summarizes the Russian translation methods of Chinese numerals,that is,real to real,real to imaginary,imaginary to imaginary,replacing numerals,deleting numerals and adding numerals,and focus on Russian translation strategies of Chinese numerals,on the whole,Conrad adopts the translation strategy of free translation and domestication,Shi Yaohua adopts the translation strategy of literal translation and foreignization,Maliavin adopts the translation strategy of literal translation plus annotation,combining domestication and foreignization,I think that the translation strategy of "harmony and cooperation" can be adopted,in which literal translation and free translation cooperate with each other and domestication and foreignization learn from each other,and sums up the Russian translation principles of Chinese numerals,that is,grasping the special usage of numerals,changing the thinking mode of numerals,understanding the cultural connotation of numerals.
