Black and white is the most basic, unique, and expressive element in the art of painting.Any type of painting implies the laws of black and white formal language, such as Chinese painting, printmaking, oil painting, and so on.The more reasonable black and white, the smoother and more comfortable the visual aesthetic feeling formed. The stronger the momentum of black and white, the more obvious the visual impact of the screen, which is the charm of form. The morphological language of black and white is like the two skeletons in a black and white woodcut picture, guiding the change and unity, contrast, and balance of the overall force of the picture, while also supporting the structure and relationship of the picture. The key to the success of a black and white woodcut work lies in the rational collocation and use of the formal language of black and white in its screen. This article temporarily separates the black and white formal language from the black and white woodcut, and explores some of the effects of black and white as a specific formal language on screen construction. This article discusses the black and white formal language in black and white wood carving through three parts. The first part explains the concept of black and white in ancient China, and analyzes and explains the significance of "knowing the white and guarding the black" in black and white woodcut combining with typical works. The second part focuses on the construction of black and white formal language, generating black and white contrast from composition; The shape forms a black and white personality; The influence of knife technique on black and white rhythm is analyzed from three aspects, and its performance characteristics in black and white woodcut creation are analyzed with a case study. The third part focuses on the use and expression of the black and white formal language of black and white woodcut in my graduation creation "Luoshengmen".
