The Historical Suspicion and The Continued Historical Suspicion are both historical works of Wanli period,and The Continued Historical Suspicion is a sequel to The Historical Suspicion.The authors are Zhang Yingtai and Zhang Yiqing,whom are from Jing County,Anhui Province.Their works were included in The Jingchuan Series of Books compiled during the Qing Dynasty,and few people studied them.But the two books are rich in content and deeply influenced by The Times.In Wanli period,there appeared the tendency of historiology non-neo-Confucianism,the trend of economic thought,the trend of doubting antiquity and the trend of retro thought.The social atmosphere of favoritism had a certain influence on their hometown.However,due to the heart-mind theory’s lectures,a good style of study was formed in Jing County.Their book were deeply influenced.The evaluation of historical figures such as Chen Ping,Huo Guang and Guan Yu is different from the views of historians,the view of Confucian scholars of Song Dynasty,and the theory of the world.The evaluation of Zhang Hua,Gan Zhuo,Niu Sengru and Li Deyu in the The Continued Historical Suspicion is the same.The materials they use are still the official history and The Book of Capital Management,but they all pay great attention to details.Evaluate people through words,behavior,character and other aspects,and try to remain objective and fair.When commenting on characters,The Historical Suspicion and The Continued Historical Suspicion Continue to quote Confucian classics such as Spring and Autumn Annals and Yi,which can also be seen that the thoughts of Zhang Yingtai and Zhang Yiqing are mainly influenced by Confucianism.However,some of their thoughts are related to Taoism,and Zhang Yiqing is also greatly influenced by Zen.This also indicates that The Continued Historical Suspicion is a sequel of The Historical Suspicion,but it has great innovation.The two books also have in common the theory of the Way of heaven,which may have been influenced by Deng Yuanxi.In addition to the theory of heaven and character,the two books have their own characteristics.The theory of system,the theory of orthodoxy and the theory of the Past Dynasties in the theory of the rise and fall of The Historical Suspicion show a strong sense of the Confucian and neo-Confucianism.The theory of the rise and fall of The Continued Historical Suspicion is mostly about the Song Dynasty,which represents the reflection on the history of the Song Dynasty.And the historical theory of interpretation and The criticism of Hu ’an Guo’s the Spring and Autumn Annals reflects the transformation of historiography after the middle Ming Dynasty and innovation of the study of the Spring and Autumn Annals.Therefore,the historical thought of The Historical Suspicion is based on the classics and criticism,supplemented by the reincarnation of heaven.The historical thought of The Continued Historical Suspicion is based on the Yi learning and the Spring and Autumn period,mainly on the history of Zen,supplemented by theoretical interpretation.Two books of thought is not the same with two people experience is closely related to different,Zhang Yingtai Shi was an official in the court,so can point out deep current problems.Zhang Yiqing is not an official in the court,dedicated to history,and meditation,so can devote to academic.Compared with the history of the past dynasties and the history of the previous generation of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty,Zhao Chongguo’s theory of The Historical Suspicion and Feng Dao’s theory and Zhang Jun and Shi Hao’s theories in the The Continued Historical Suspicion have both inheritance and innovation.It has a certain influence on the later generations,that is,Song Cunbiao’s Qiu Shi Historical Suspicion.But they are not innovative enough.Although the two historical theories representing Jing County historiography cannot be compared with those of historians from Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces,they represent the general understanding of history of historians who received cultural education in Wanli period,which cannot be said to be low level,which should occupy a place in the history of the development of ancient Chinese historical theory.
