In the contemporary literary world,Su Tong is undoubtedly an "evergreen" writer. As a professional writer who has been writing continuously since the 1980 s,he has always taken the Chinese literary tradition of worldly feeling as the spiritual code for his long novels, thus establishing his position in literary history.Based on this, this paper will take the "worldly tradition" as the research point, microscopically analyze Su Tong’s long fiction works through a close reading of the text, and discover Su Tong’s narrative strategy of inheriting the worldly tradition and his writing wisdom of creative transformation. The text is divided into three parts. The first part is the introduction, which explains the origin of the topic, the definition of related concepts, the current status of the study of Su Tong’s long novels, and the ideas and methods of the study. The second part consists of three chapters. The first chapter presents the narrative landscape of Su Tong’s long novels, mainly from the dynamic interpretation of interpersonal relationships, the alternative writing of women’s fate, and the detailed portrayal of marketplace customs. In his microscopic simulation of secular society,Su Tong faithfully restores the intricate relationships and subtle emotions of people, the paradox of women’s fate, and the material life and spirituality of people, painting a panoramic sketch that is appreciated by both the elegant and the vulgar.Chapter 2 analyzes the narrative strategies of Su Tong’s long novels inspired by the worldly tradition. This chapter focuses on the traditional novels of worldly affairs such as "Three Words and Two Beats",and examines the plot construction of his long novels from three aspects:misunderstanding coincidence, karma, and suspense;the role of the "storyteller",the "book-like scene",and the "encompassing scene".The problem of storytelling in his long novels is analyzed in terms of the role of the "storyteller," the "book-like scene" and the "encompassing" structure;the problem of shaping time in his long novels is revealed in terms of the cyclical, imaginative and rhetorical characteristics of time.In the face of the worldly tradition,Su Tong shows a very modern and imaginative cultural and stylistic selfawareness, giving a new life to the worldly tradition in the narrative level. The third chapter explores the modern transformation of Su Tong’s long novels into the worldly tradition and the literary values it has forged.Firstly, the cultural motivation for Su Tong’s return to Chinese worldly traditions depends to a large extent on the writer’s writing posture, his personal life experience and the influence of literary discourse, which together promote his creative transformation of worldly traditions.Secondly, through the retracing of worldly conditions and the true restoration of human nature,Su Tong finely outlines the changes and development of worldly conditions in the contemporary cultural context, carrying the writer’s deep thoughts on human nature, history and reality. The third part is the concluding remarks. The concluding section seeks to provide a systematic and comprehensive summary of Su Tong’s writing on worldly conditions in his long novels. The writing of Su Tong’s long novels on worldly affairs provides us with an extremely important reference for exploring the secular life and style of the times. This reconstruction and breakthrough of the worldly feeling tradition not only enriches and extends the space for the exploration of "people",but also reveals the aesthetic pursuit and aesthetic style of narrative, thus providing important reference values for the literary creation of contemporary writers.
