| Under the guidance of Relevance Theory and based on the translation of news on UN Women site,this practice report classifies the elements of cognitive context under relevance theory and summarizes the translation techniques under the influence of such cognitive elements.Under the influence of situational knowledge,translators can adopt amplification and omission,completing the information of the target text by adding some words and reducing the repeated content to make the target text more concise.Under the influence of background knowledge,translators can apply literal translation with annotation,equivalent substitution and adjustment of sentence patterns.Translators adopt equivalent substitution to translate idioms or colloquial expressions with cultural background,adjust the sentence patterns to solve the problem of differences between English and Chinese sentence patterns,and adopt literal translation with annotation to fill in the cognitive gaps between readers and writers and expand the cognitive context.Under the influence of context knowledge,translators can adopt the translation skills of word meaning extension and part of speech conversion.Through word meaning extension,they can choose the most appropriate expression for words in the specific context,and make the translation conform to the characteristics of Chinese multi-static expression through part of speech conversion.This report is aimed to so as to provide reference for the translation practice of news texts in the future. |
