The origin of kimberlitic pipes is one of the heated debates in earth science. Adetailed study has been carried out on the kimberlitic pipes with kimberlite, xenolithand diamond on the basis of a comprehensive analysis on a great number of dataabout kimberlite in Shandong and other areas in the world combined with a fieldinvestigation on the Shengli I kimberlitic pipe mined already and Xiyu kimberliticpipes in Mengyin, Shandong Province. This leads to propose a new model for theorigin of the kimberlitic pipes. The following are the achievements that have been acquired in this study.1. The formation of the kimberlitic pipes in Mengyin, Shandong Province hassome definite relations with the development of the Tan-Lu fault belt.2. "Spiral rising-concealed explosion" of carbonaceous gases and kimberliticmagma with fluids and xenoliths is responsible for the formation ofkimberlitic pipes.3. Diamonds in the kimberlitic pipes may be formed through mineralizationof multiple periods with multiple stages.4. A new model is set up for the origin of the kimberlitic pipes.
