Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections give rise to various disease, among which the incidence of venereal disease caused by herpes simplex virus type I (HSV-2) is considerrably rising recently. For antiviral therapy, monoclonal antibody treatment has held great promise. However, the potential use of murine monoclonal antibodies in vivo and their therapeutic efficiency are severely restricted by not only their immunogenicity which generates an immune response to the mouse antibodies in humans but also their big molecular size which obstructs the antibodies from reaching the "canyon" of virus.
