Some genes, which are expressed in the developmental fetal liver, will be closed at the adult stage. Cloning of these specifically expressed genes in fetal liver is of great importance for understanding the developmental mechanism of liver. There are many methods for the cloning of novel genes. One of the most efficient techniques is based on the differences of gene expression between different cell populations. The mRNA differential display technique, introduced by Liang P. et al in 1992, makes the screening and cloning of differentially expressed genes more sensitive and effective. This approach has been wildly used to study the gene expression in development, cell differentiation and a variety of physiological and pathological procedures.
