Repair of injured mammlian central nervous system (CNS) is one of the most interesting fields in neuroscience research. Neural stem cells (NSCs) with a great potencial value for clinical application is one aspect of this study and inspiring progresses have been obtained in the recent years. The present study examined the in vitro and in vivo properties of NSCs, thus supplied new evidence of the survival, migration and differentiation of spinal NSCs, offered new experimental material for the investigation of the co-effects of NSCs and cell adhesion molecule L1, and indicated a possibility of the clinical application of these cells.In the first part of this study, we successfully isolated spinal NSCs from EGFP transgenic mice and explored several in vitro properties of these cells.
