Study On Spatio-temporal Change Of Land-use In Urban Area Along The Coast Of Zhejiang Province In Rapid Urbanization Stage

Urbanization is a process in which population, wealth and human activities gradually centralize in the urban zone. It is certain that urbanization will be accompanied with changes of earthscape and building facilities, as well as the deep-seated transition of labor division in a society and its organizational structure. As urbanization is based on land-use in urban area, all sorts of infrastructural construction, no matter the adjustment of industry structure or the change of urban and rural residential structure, must be realized by reconfigurating the land-use.As one of the two big events which "impact the global development and change the face of the world in the 21st Century", the process of urbanization in China has been in a rapidly developing stage, that is especially evident in the southeast coastal cities of China. The coastal area of Zhejiang, which is not only an economic-advanced region in Zhejiang Province but also a bridge between the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta, is the most dynamic area in China. And it has incalculable value in promoting the harmonious development of regional economy and society.The coastal area of Zhejiang Province is chosen as research area, and its typical spatio-temporal change in the rapid urbanization stage is analyzed. As the spatial and substantial foundation of urbanization process, the spatio-temporal change of land-use in urban area is a process which is necessarily accompanied with demographic, economic, social and environmental evolution. Analysis on the spatio-temporal change of land-use in urban area along the coast of Zhejiang Province in depth will, on one hand, support the optimization of the structure of land-use in urban area, rational allocation of land resources and intensive land use with scientific proof; and on the other hand, make significant sense to promote the process of urbanization and the sustainable development on the economic, social and environmental aspects.The theme of this paper is about the spatio-temporal change of land-use in urban area along the coast of Zhejiang Province in the rapid urbanization stage, and it includes the followings:1. Bringing Theil index-a traditional socioeconomics analytical method-to spatial analysis.2. Demonstrating the complementary relationship among location entropy, Lorenz curve and Gini coefficient. 3. Creating a comprehensive method of analyzing urban land-use- TheLLGIS. It integrates the Theil index, Location entropy, Lorenz curve, Gini coefficient and Shannon entropy. TheLLGIS can on one hand remain all the advantages of the above-mentioned methods, and on the other hand overcome the disadvantage of using any of those method alone.4. Analyzing the current situation and changes of land-use in urban area in the research area in such a rapid urbanization background from four perspectives:the scale of urban land, the average level per capita, the structure of land-use in urban area and the condition of city land-use for construction owned by per capita.5. A comprehensive analysis of the spatio-temporal change of land-use in urban area in the research area by using TheLLGIS method, through three aspects:spatial structure, composite structure and quantity structure of land-use in urban area.6. Analyzing the driving force for the spatio-temporal change of land-use in urban area in the research area in a rapid urbanization process, in combination with factors such as the urban land-use policy, economy, population, society and environment.The research shows that by applying TheLLGIS to the study of spatio-temporal change of land-use in urban area, it could integrate several regional economics research methods and avoid the localization of using each of them. Moreover, the analytical result can be presented on a map by GIS, which leads to a more visual conclusion. By using TheLLGIS method, we can do all-wave analysis on the structural feature of urban land-use and provide scientific evidence to design and implement the strategy of reasonable urban land-use. It also has universal significance for future regional analysis in socioeconomics.
