On the basis of the research about fabric hand and researches on other fields, the color style of textile and clothing were investigated and studied. The meanings and method of evaluation of the color style were discussed on the results of equipment measurement, sense investigation and physiological test.Color and color style were different but confused people. On the basis of research, it had been put forward that the color style consisted of substance and spirit, which were visible and invisible respectively.The physical measurement of color was the first step of color style research. A number of index about physical properties of color were analyzed. It had been found that the strength and the distribution of reflective spectrum, and the K/S value were important factors of color style. CIE* a* b* were also very useful index for coloe style research.By means of the technique of evoked potentials tests, the invisible parts of color style could be investigated. An additional computer was connected with the equipment to produce the color image. The synchronization between evoked potentials scanning and image overturning was critical for the signal recording. The results of test showed that the affection of color stimuli could be reflected by visual evoked potentials. Although there were differences among the results from different persons, the trends of the visual evoked potentials were similar.The sense evaluation could combine the physical characters with the physiological and psychological factors. The color style was divided into different parts, which were evaluated by professional persons for 30 colors on fabric. According to the results of investigation and factor analysis, the color style could be divided into substance and spirit parts.The evaluation of color style could be made as the same ways as fabric hand. The advanced technique of artificial neural network had the advantages of working in the same ways as human geographical neural system. The colors were classified according to the physical indexes and discriminate functions were obtained by means of classification and discriminate analysis methods. The results showed the great accordance with the results of sense evaluation.The artificial neural network systems were also used for color style classification and discrimination. Both physical indexes and sense evaluation results were used as input of system for color style classification. The outputs of both showed great similarity. BP neural network was used for color style prediction. The system with different input notes and hidden notes were build to compare the effects of net construction. The results gave out that within the certain range of notes, the network could predict the color style correctly according to the physical indexes of color.As there were too much description between mathematic model and practice, many useful information was lost duding regression, the regression could not give satisfied results in color style research.The research on color style provided a new field in textile and clothing. This study provide the basic theory and practical method for color research.
