Synthesis and properties of the first series of lanthanide(III) monobenzoporphyrin compound liquid crystals, relative transition metal benzoporphyrin compound liquid crystals, and lanthanide porphyrin complexes of acetylacetonate are introduced, sixteen-two new complexes are divided nine series in this paper.Since Goodby et.al synthesized the first liquid in 1980, a new type ofliquid crystal material has been developed rapidly. Liquid crystal porphyrin may be used as semiconductor or photoconductor materials, scientists gave paid close attention to its photoeletronic property. In 1989, liquid crystal porphyrin was first used in color disply by Kubota. In 1990 Yamamota.l made a disply instrument from synthesized benzoporphyrin and its liquid crystal metal porphyrin. According to references synthesized liquid crystal porphyrins have problems of higher temperature of liquid crystal phase, higher viscosity of liquid crystal phase and a narrow mesophase range, as a result, restrict the application of liquid crystal porphyrin.Liquid crystal porphyrin is a big conjngate annular compound, its periphery has 12 active positions, which could link up dikkerent structures soft side chains. So, we could synthesize new type compound of liquid crystal porphyrin with special properties by molecular design. In order to synthesize liquid crystal porphyrin which have lower temperature of phase change, lower viscosity and a broad mesophase range, we first linked up 48 new compounds long chain with alkyl on meso-position of TATBP according to molecular design.Since C. P. Wong synthesized the first lanthanide porphyrin complex in 1974, which is meso-tetraphenyl porphyrin Europium (III), a new type of porphyrin complexes has been developed rapidly. Especially in 1983, Buchler and his colleagues synthesized the first sandwich lanthanideIf?porphyrin complex, then opened a new researching field. Due to special spectroscopic and magnetic properties of lanthanide ions, their porphyrin complexes have manifested more and more relative physicochemical properties and spectroscopic characteristics. The porphyrins and his lanthanide complexes were used a the NMR shift reagents and the fluorescence probes of organic and biological macromolecular structures. The catalytic function, photoelectric and optical storage materials of lanthanide porphyrins were also investigated. These complexes have been characterized by Elemental analyses, Uv-vis, IR spectra, NMR and Molar Conductance. The structures are proposed in which our idea are true. The liquid crystal phase properties have been researched by polarized microscopic observation and X-ray diffraction. They are all room temperature liquid crystals. The mesophase structures are probably a hexagonal discotic columnar Coin. According to these results, the materials will been useed well.9 series compounds were studied by means of cyclic voltammetry, surface photovoltage and luminescence spectroscopies for first time.I.
