The dissertation summarized the present situation of development of reconfigurable manufacturing sytem(RMS) and lower speed wire electrical discharge machine tools (LS-WEDM) at home and aboard. In terms of the requirements of enterprises and users of reconfigurable LS-WEDM, an in-depth analysis is given on the necessity to develop LS-WEDM. Based on this, the project titled "The Study and Design of controlling System of lower Speed Wire electrical Discharge Machine Tools based on the reconfigurable Theory" is put forward and studied, and the controlling system is tested on a four-dimensional linear cutting experiment rig. Details are as follows: 1. A theory that the function of machine tools was determined by three elements of workpiece shapes was analysized, based on the theory, a thought that divide reconfigurable machine tools into modulus according to reconfigurable grain size of three elements modulus was put forward, the composition of reconfigurable LS-WEDM system in modularization was created based on the thought, the designing problems of generalization, modularization, serialization and standardization for LS-WEDM based on reconfigurable conception was probed into. Which lays a better foundation for researching,designing and building reconfigurable machine tools. 2. A closed-loop AC servo numerical control system for LS-WEDM has been developed at the Windows NT with visual C++6.0 based on PC indusrial computer, a curve synthetic interpolation theory with compensation of wire radius and spark gaps has been expounded theoretically and practically. With the theory, any straight line and quadratic curve's (circle,ellipse,hyperbold and parabold) equidistance curve can be interpolated indirectly with the help of outline and wire circle's information, it is unnecessary to calculate equidistance curve. This method effectively avoided equidistance curve's traditional calculating errors, the controlled precision of LS-WEDM has been increased. A backtracking interpolation theory based on the synthetic interpolation theory was expounded, a controlling program used to cutting straight line and quadratic curve has been developed successfully. 3. The situation of forming sharp corner and internal corner of any straight line and quadratic curve has been over-all analysized, the transition of sharp corner and internal corner of any straight line and quadratic curve has been solved with the synthetic interpolation theory, details deal with synthetic interpolation has been solved. 4.The basic conception, programming and information processing of different top and bottom shapes and twist curved surface has been expounded. A new interpolation theory of "Displacement accumulated Association Interpolation" for different top and bottom Shapes and twist curved surface has been put forward, and the backtracking interpolation method based on the new interpolation theory has been studied. This interpolation theory calculated the displacement of PRP and PSP Plane to equivalent accumulated displacement of UV and XY Plane, the theory is of advantages to simplifying programming, reducing accumulative errors caused by traditional calculation method and increasing control precision.The controlling program for different top and bottom shapes and twist curved surface has been developed successfully.
