The diphenyl ether derivatives have the extensive application and the research values in the medicine, agrochemical, cosmetics, textile product etc. It is a very important target to obtain more compounds which have higher effect, wider application, better selectivity and lower toxicity. This article concentrates on the synthesis and biological activities of the nitrodiphenyl ether and brominated hydroxydipheyl ether derivatives, 57 compounds including 34 new compounds were synthesized, isolated and characterized by IR, 1HNMR, MS and elemental analysis. The basic biological activity research of most of the target molecule were carried out. The following innovated results were achieved: (1) The synthesis of 15 nitrodiphenyl ethers were improved with the microwave method, the new method is quick and facile with good yield. (2) 12 new compounds with 2,4,5-tri-substituted groups on the non-nitro benzene-ring were synthesized via the bromination of the simple nitro-diphenyl ethers, isolated and characterized by IR, 1HNMR, MS and elemental analysis. This kind of nitrodiphenyl ethers has not been reported before and cannot be facile synthesized by other methods. 14 compounds, including 8 new compounds, were synthesized by the same bromination method, isolated and characterized by IR, 1HNMR, MS and elemental analysis. (3) Herbicidal activities of some synthetic compounds against alter-nanehca philoxeroides were tested and the law was found that the di-substituted compounds have best activity. The selectivity test, which is more important, remains unfinished. (4) 8 new brominated 2-hydroxydiphenyl ethers which have the alike structure of natural product were synthesized, isolated and characterized by IR, 1HNMR, MS and elemental analysis. (5) 8 new brominated 4-hydroxydiphenyl ethers were synthesized, isolated and characterized by IR, 1HNMR, MS and elemental analysis. (6) Anti-bacteria activity of the brominated hydroxydiphenyl ethers against several bacteria were tested and the following results were obtained: a). all of the tested compounds have strong anti-bacteria activity, only one example showed that 2-hydroxy product is better than 4-hydroxy product. b).It is not always advantageous to the anti-bacteria activity to increase the number of bromine atom in the molecule. c). fluoro-substitution is advantageous to enhance the anti-bacteria activity of molecule. (7) Three target molecules are better than triclosan which is extensive anti-bacteria agent widely used in e domestic, medicine, agriculture etc. The thorough research in future can provide probably the practical good anti-bacteria compound. These studies give a good basis to expand the research and applications of the diphenyl ethers and the related derivatives.
