The rod-coil diblock copolymers can self-assemble into abundant ordered periodic microstructure.Thus, The studies on the self-assembling behavior of the rod-coil diblock copolymers are important to prepare nanometer and micrometer function materials. In the paper, both poly(phenylquinoline)-b-polystyrene(PPQ-b–PS)and poly(phenylquinoline)-b- poly(ethyl ene glycol) (PPQ-b-PEG) were designed and synthesized. The effect of reaction conditions on the each reaction was investigated. The structure and properties of PPQ-b-PS, PPQ-b-PEG and intermediate products were characterized by UV-Visible, IR, 1HNMR, XRD, Thermogravimetric analyisis and so on. The self-assembling behavior and mechanism of PPQ-b-PS , PPQ-b-PEG copolymers in the selective solvents were studied .The 5-acetyl-2-aminobenzophenone(ABP) was synthesized by using p-nitroacetophenone, ethylene glycol, phenylacetonitrile, hydrogen, perchloric acid as raw materials under stirring means. The structure of ABP and intermediate products were characterized by UV-Visible, IR, 1HNMR. The effect of the mole ratio reactant, reaction temperature, reaction time , catalyzer on the each reaction were studied. The optimum reaction conditions were obtained. The ultrasonic was adopted firstly, ABP was synthesized by using p-nitroacetophenone as raw material. Compared with stirring means, the reaction time was shortened from 44h to 32h and the yield of the target product increased from 39.5% to 69.6%.PS with monocarboxylic acid terminated was synthesized by using polystyrene, chloroactic acid, FeCl2·4H2O by atom transfer radical polymerization. The molecular weight distributing of carboxylic acid terminated PS was narrow(Mw/Mn=1.3~1.6). The carboxylic acid terminated PS was functionalized, PPQ-b-PS diblock copolymers was synthesized by copolymerization of ABP with the functionalized PS. The structure of PPQ-b-PS and intermediate products were characterized by UV-Visible, IR, 1HNMR and GPC. The result was showed that the structure of PPQ-b-PS was correct .The real molecular weight was consistent with theoretic molecular weight. The polymerization mechanism was a non-reversible concentrative reaction.
