In this paper, the reactive compatibilizing mechanism and compatibilizing effect of certain reactive compatibilizers for polymer alloys are explored.Three methods for preparing reactive compatibilizers were studied. These compatibilizers are PP-g-GMA, LLDPE-g-GMA and SEBS-g-MAH. The effect of initiating agent, active monomer content and reacting time et.al. on the grafting efficiency and physical properties were investigated. On the basis of theory research, conditions for preparing these reactive compatibilizers with good results were disclosed.Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) , dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA) and x-ray diffractometer were employed in the study. The result is that reactive compatibilization has been obtained for SEBS-g-MAH to PPO/PA66 system and PP-g-GMA to PA66/PP system. The relative compounds produced are PA66-g-MAH-g-SEBS and PA66-g-GMA-g-PP. The infrared spectrogram and the glass transition temperature (Tg) were acquired for these materials. The influence of reactive compatibilizers on the crystallinity and nucleating rate of PA66 was examined with the use of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and x-ray diffractometer. The reacting compatibilization of PP-g-GMA and LLDPE-g-GMA towards PET/PE alloy was also studied. Their effect on the crystallinity and nucleating rate of PET was examined by using the DSC. The result showed that both of them have the effect in increasing the crystallinity and the nucleating rate of the PET. The variation of the distance between different crystal faces by the introducing of reacting compatibilizers has been found by x-ray diffractometer. Changes of micro-structures in PPO/PA66, PET/PO and PA66/PO alloys after mixing with reactive compatibilizers were observed with scanning electronic microscope. The consequence is that with incorporating of reactive compatibilizers the reaction between different domains was enforced effectively. As a result, the dispersed phase becomes smaller particles...
