Surface properties of polymers are known to be of considerable importance in applications such as coatings ,adhesives ,films, biomaterials. With the deep research to polymer material, surface modification of polymers has become an important field in the plastic industry. There are some surface modification techniques including chemical, plasma treatments, photo irradiation. However, no industrial product is available so far because of the lack of an industrially easy method. The modifyfing polymeric surface by blending is regarded as a simple.effective method. There have been proposed to knead a polymer material together with modifying agent .The modifier bleeds to the surface of the polymer to modifying polymeric surface .In the thesis, for the first time, the α-olefin and maleic anhydride were synthesized through free radical polymerization. There have been attempted to modify the surface of polymer materials by adding this modifier which consisting of polymer portion having a hydrophilic property and a polymer portion having a hydrophobic property to pure polymer. The effect factors of surface modification including molecular weight, environment, the content of modifier were studied. Some meaningful conclusions were made. The result shows that preferred modifiers have an average molecular weight of from 6000-10000. In addition, surface accumulation of hydrophobic or hydrophilic segments occurs depending on the nonpolar or polar environment. During blending, lower surface energies may be achieved by preferential placement of one component at the surface and consequently the equilibrium surface composition is determined by the minimization of the total system free emery. Modifier at the polymer surface can be measured by ESCA and the surface accumulation of the modifier can be characterizated by SEM.In this paper, maleic anhydride grafted PP was prepared and used as a surface modifier of PP. Due to the different of two molten viscosity, the low viscosity (PP-MAH) fluid would flow past the higher viscosity (pure PP) annulus and flow rapidly...
