| Multi-point forming (MPF) is a flexible manufacturing technology for three-dimensional surface part of sheet metal. Its main idea is dividing the curved surface of the traditional stamping dies into rule arrange, high adjustable element group,and then the three-dimensional shape of sheet metal is formed by the curved surface of elements (element group forming surface). MPF controls the displacement and speed of elements through computer, to change the curved surface of elements and complete flexible manufacturing. This is a great innovation to the traditional metal stamping technology. Currently MPF is successfully applied in many realms, such as shipbuilding, orbit passenger car, medical science engineering and the large stadium building construction etc. there is extensively applied foreground in the aviation aerospace realm.With the process of computer applications and the maturity of nonlinear finite element, the numerical simulation technology of sheet metal forming is developed quickly. Now the technology is widely applied in the forecasting forming defects and optimizing forming technics etc. In MPF, the dynamic explicit finite element arithmetic is very suited to simulate the sheet metal forming, Because the contact between the elements and blank is changing all the time, and the complicated applying load condition,adopting dynamic explicit finite element calculation has apparent advantage. So a dynamic explicit finite element software—LS-DYNA is introduced to simulate the MPF for sheet metal forming defects.
