Polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) is an amorphous polymer prepared by emulsion polymerization from vinyl acetate (VAc). It is a thermoplastic resin. Its linear macromolecular chain can intercalate into the layers of organic montmorillionite (OMMT). The exfoliated nano composite of PVAc/OMMT can be obtained. Therefore, PVAc/OMMT was prepared by emulsion polymerization with different processes under normal condition in laboratory, and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), thermo gravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). Moreover, the glass transition, cold crystal and pyrolysis kinetics were found by Agrawal integral equation.The main content were as follows:(1) Preparation and characterization of PVAc.(2) Preparation and characterization of OMMT.(3) Preparation and characterization of PVAc/OMMT.The main results were as follows:(1) Under normal condition, the exfoliated nano composite of PVAc/OMMT could be prepared by emulsion polymerization with different processes in laboratory.(2) The linear macromolecular chain of PVAc could be formed in the layers of OMMT. OMMT could be exfoliated into nano particles of layers or sheets, and then dispersed in the matrix of PVAc with random state. The exfoliated nano composite of PVAc/OMMT could be obtained.(3) OMMT and PVAc were bonded by physical interaction. Because the matrix of PVAc was the same or nearly the same, the molecular structure of PVAc/OMMT synthesized by different processes was nearly the same, too. The glass transition kinetics of PVAc and PVAc/OMMT were found that different, but nearly the same of that of cold crystal and pyrolysis kinetics.
