Biomass is a reproducible energy. Its high efficient conversion and low pollution application is more and more important in the world. In this paper, the present situation and development trend of internal-combustion engine fuels are briefly discussed. The characteristics and advantages of the Jatropha curcas oil are summarized. The characteristics of Jatropha cursas oil are measured. The combustion and emission characteristics of the diesel fueled with Jatropha curcas oil are measured and analyzed. The three dimension combustion model of the diesel fueled with Jatropha curcas oil is established. The guide line of the diesel using Jatropha curcas oil is provided.The characteristics of performances, combustion and exhaust emissions of ZH1115 diesel engine fueled with 0#diesel (Diesel), normal temperature of Jatropha curcas oil (B100) and preheated to 150℃of Jatropha curcas oil (B100(150)) are measured under different conditions. The effects of parameters such as load, engine speed and fuel supply advance angle on combustion process are studied. The results show that: compared with 0#diesel fuel, when the engine is fueled with B100 and B100(150), the maximum combustion pressure and the maximum pressure rise rate are lower, and their corresponding phases are advanced. The exhaust temperature and CO emission are higher. NOx and HC emissions are lower. The soot emission is at the equivalent level. It is found that when the fuel supply advance angle increasing, the maximum combustion pressure and the maximum pressure rise rate are higher, NOX and CO emissions are higher, HC emission is lower compared with 0#diesel.
